Take Your Community Radio Station to a Worldwide Audience
urmic.org provides free live streaming services for MIB-registered Community Radio Stations (CRS) to help them reach listeners beyond their local broadcast coverage and make their programmes accessible worldwide.
With online streaming, your community radio station can reach listeners across India and around the world through the internet.
No paid streaming service is available. Live streaming is provided free of charge under a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Urmic.org.
If your Community Radio Station is registered with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), you are welcome to contact Urmic.org to explore this opportunity.
Why Should Your Community Radio Station Go Online?
Community radio plays an important role in local communication, education, culture, and public awareness. Online streaming can extend that impact beyond the geographical limits of traditional radio transmission.
By joining Urmic.org, your station can:
- Reach a worldwide audience: Make your radio programmes accessible to listeners around the globe.
- Connect with your community worldwide: Help people living away from their hometowns stay connected with local news, culture, music, and community programmes.
- Make broadcasts accessible online: Allow listeners to tune in through internet-connected devices.
- Promote local culture and education: Extend the reach of educational, agricultural, cultural, and public-interest programmes.
- Expand your station’s reach: Give your community radio station an opportunity to connect with listeners beyond its conventional transmission area.
Free Service – No Paid Plans
urmic.org is committed to supporting Community Radio Stations by providing free live streaming.
Our approach is straightforward:
- No paid live-streaming service is offered.
- Streaming is provided free of charge under an MOU with Urmic.org.
- Community Radio Stations registered with MIB are welcome to participate.
Our objective is to make online streaming accessible to genuine community radio stations without introducing subscription fees or paid service plans.
Who Can Join?
If your Community Radio Station is registered with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), your station is welcome to join.
We believe community radio should have opportunities to reach a wider audience and share its local voice with the world.
Content Permissions and Responsibility
The Community Radio Station is responsible for its content and all necessary permissions.
Ur mic.org provides the technical facility for live streaming. Each participating CRS is responsible for ensuring that it has the necessary rights, permissions, and authorisations for the content it broadcasts and streams online.
This includes responsibility for applicable copyright permissions and compliance with the requirements relevant to its programmes.
Because online streaming can make broadcasts accessible worldwide, stations should carefully consider the permissions applicable to their content.
Ur mic.org does not obtain content permissions on behalf of participating stations. Content ownership, permissions, and related responsibilities remain with the respective CRS.
Compliance Support for 30-Day Programme Recordings
Maintaining programme recordings and records is an important part of community radio compliance.
Under an MOU with Urmic.org, participating CRS stations will receive assistance with the technical process of maintaining programmer recordings for the required 30-day period, in accordance with applicable MIB guidelines.
This support aims to help stations manage their recording workflows more effectively.
Depending on the agreed arrangement, assistance may include guidance on recording, storage, and technical procedures.
Each station remains responsible for meeting its applicable regulatory obligations. The scope of assistance will be discussed as part of the MOU.
